Update A Kitchen Backsplash With Paint

Painting over outdated ceramic tile is a quick and economical way to update your kitchen.

Supplies and Tools Needed

• Degreasing cleanser
• Paint primer -- choose one made for slick or shiny surfaces
• Gloss or semi-gloss paint (Use the highest quality paint you can afford)
• Polyurethane
• Paint brushes, including small ones for grout and corners
• Paint roller - small width
• Masking tape

Instructions

1. Use a degreasing cleanser to thoroughly wash all the tile to be painted.  Then, thoroughly rinse the surface and allow it to dry.

2. Tape off cabinet and countertop edges to protect from paint.

3. Apply two coats of primer, allowing the surface to dry between coats

4.  Use high quality paint and begin as you would any paint job. Cut the edges with a brush. Next, go over the rest with a sponge roller to give a smooth clean finish. Apply two coats of paint, allowing the surface to dry between coats.

5. Apply one or two coats of polyurethane to protect your paint job.

You now have a modern, durable, and washable new backsplash
