Indy Cops Call State Lawmakers for Back Up

The head of the Indianapolis Fraternal Order of Police is asking Indiana lawmakers for help in the city’s fight against rising crime and violence.

Rick Synder testified today before the Indiana Senate Corrections and Criminal Law Committee and on Monday Snyder and members of the Ten Point Coalition met with Governor Eric Holcomb.

Snyder says too many county jail inmates are either being released back into the community or arrestees not serving any time behind bars because jail space is being taken up by Department of Corrections’ inmates.  And that driving the increase in violent crime.

Snyder says he wants lawmakers to amend the criminal code to so more violent felons can stay behind bars.

You can hear Snyder's comments here.  They run for about 14 minutes.
