Listeners Respond: Should Facebook be Regulated Like a Public Utility?

Censorship and Banning of Outspoken Media Figures Prompts Conservatives to Rethink Government Regulation

Should Facebook and other social media platforms be regulated by the Federal government as public utilities? More and more mainstream Republicans have been voicing support for the idea in response to massive outrage following the censorship and 'banning' of several outspoken conservative media personalities from the platform.

Conservatives aren't the only voices calling for increased government regulation of Mark Zuckerberg's social media monster (chosen word of "monster" QUITE intentional). Chris Hughes, who helped start Facebook and left the company some ten years ago, has described Facebook as too powerful with an awesome ability to control information and speech.

How powerful is Facebook? The company controls an estimated 80% of the world’s social network revenues, and according to Hughes, its position is “unprecedented and un-American."

Hughes says Zuckerberg and Facebook, remain entirely unaccountable, particularly on privacy concerns and election interference. Roger McNamee, an early Facebook investor and Zuckerberg mentor holds the same opinion.

The Chicks on the Right put forth the question of whether or not the government should regulate Facebook to their audience Tuesday morning Listeners were surprisingly eager to weigh in on the subject. Click the link below to hear what they had to say.
