Frustration and Outrage: Did The President Cave?

President Donald Trump announced Friday that he had reached a deal with congressional leaders to re-open the government for three weeks, angering Republicans who viewed the move as a betrayal of his promise and commitment to build a wall along the southern border.
"It's like when you go out on a date with a guy and think, 'This one is going to be different. This guy is going to be the perfect man for me.' And everything goes along great until the end of the date when you find out his favorite band is Hanson."
Political pundits on the right and Trump's most ardent supporters have been quick to suggest that the President is merely positioning to deliver a final argument for the wall in his upcoming State of the Union speech - a last ditch effort to avoid the declaration of a national emergency, which would prompt a legal challenge from Democrats. What remains unclear, however, is whether the President can ultimately win back the confidence of a dissolutioned base - let alone secure the support of moderate Democrats.
