That Government Shutdown Over Border Wall Funding? Just Kidding.
Trump supporters took a massive punch to the gut Tuesday, as the White House suggested the President could back down from his demand for $5 billion to fund his proposed border wall in a year-end spending bill.
Now then, for the benefit of those who might have been in a coma or trapped in one of Buffallo Bill's isolation and torture dungeons for the last several weeks, please note the following: Trump’s push for the money has threatened a partial government shutdown when funding for seven agencies lapses after midnight Friday, and the President said he would be “proud” to close parts of the government over border security.
Apparently the President would be equally "proud" to completely cave to Democrats and forgo that whole "great negotiator" reputation in favor of a kinder, gentler, more progressive "limp noodle" persona.
"Ah gee, Wally, if only the President was as tough in real life as he portrays himself on Twitter." - Beaver Cleaver, Disillusioned Trump Voter
“We have other ways that we can get to that $5 billion” and will “work with Congress” to do so, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told Fox News on Tuesday morning.
Details and specifics on exactly WHAT those "other ways" the White House could use to get to $5 billion actually are, however, remain a mystery.
Simply put: the White House is wimping out on one of the President's key campaign promises and Sarah Sanders was sent to Fox News to handle damage control.
Indelible in the hippocampus are the NUMEROUS campaign promises that were made by Donald Trump leading up to the 2016 election regarding immigration enforcement and the wall. We're a little fuzzy, however, on exactly when the President promised to immediately bend over and grab his ankles the very moment the political going got tough.
By the way, in a totally unrelated story, the United States pledged $4.8 billion in economic development and aid for southern Mexico Tuesday! Isn't that awesome? Isn't that just so awesomely great?
If you're a Trump supporter, you've undoubtedly noticed that all this 'winning' of late feels strikingly similar to the experience of being incessantly kicked in the testicles. Good times... Good times...
WIBC hosts Hammer and Nigel spoke with Amber Athey of the Daily Caller Tuesday afternoon, who perfectly summed up the feelings of most rational conservatives to today's news:
"If you're a Trump supporter, you no doubt have to be disappointed. If this isn't a cave, I don't know what is."
Understatement of the year, Amber.
