The month of May is all about racing in the city of Indianapolis, and no one has a greater respect for the proud heritage of the Indianapolis 500 than legendary race car driver Al Unser Jr., a two-time champion at the Speedway who took the checkered flag in 1992 and 1994.

Al Unser Jr. joined the Hammer and Nigel Show Friday afternoon to talk Indycar racing and his work with the Harding Steinbrenner Racing team and driver, Colton Herta. Herta became the youngest race winner in Indycar history at 18 after taking the checkered flag at the Indycar Classic at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin earlier this year.

"You know, George is 22-years-old and we've got Colton who is now 19, so we've got the youngest two car owner/driver combinations in the history of Indycar Racing," Unser Jr. told Hammer and Nigel. "So it's been fun to be a part of the team and to offer advice and try to help him along and show him the way to go."

There is one key word when it comes down to what it takes to be successful in Indycar, according to Unser: patience.

"Patience is the key to the whole thing because it's so dang competitive out there [and] there are days when if you're not at the top of your game, you're going to be running 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th," said Unser. "So you have to stay focused on the days where you are at the top of your game and stay positive on the days when you're not."

Unser Jr. also talked with the guys about his career in racing and his experiences at the Indy 500. Click the link below to hear Hammer and Nigel's full interview with Little Al.
