A 16-year-old prevented protestors from rioting in Detroit Monday.
At the end of the fourth night of the city’s protests against police brutality, Stefan Perez dropped to his knees with a megaphone in his hand.
Perez, with the Detroit Police standing directly behind him in full riot gear — prepared to use physical force, tear gas, and rubber bullets — Perez urged protesters to adhere to the city’s 8 pm curfew and disperse for their own safety.
“The fact that I was able to put my hand up and stop everybody from causing trouble here tonight, I look back and smile at that moment,” Perez told the Detroit Free Press. “The people followed me into battle and I’m glad that I was able to get them home safely.”
Perez’s efforts prevented violence and earned him a call of thanks from Detroit Mayor Mike Dugan.
“Is This Anything?” Yeah, that’s DEFINITELY something.
