Authorities in Cherokee County have placed officers at its 40 polling places just north of Atlanta following threats ahead of Georgia’s Senate runoff elections.
County employees allegedly received an email on Sunday “regarding threats to polling locations on election day,” according to a report from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The newspaper said employees in other Georgia counties received the same email.
Early polling revealed a razor-thin margin in the state’s two runoff elections, which will determine majority control of the U.S. Senate.
Incumbent Sen. David Perdue (R) is facing off against Democratic challenger Jon Ossoff, while Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R) is competing against the Rev. Raphael Warnock (D).
WIBC correspondent Brian Baker, a registered voter in Georgia, told the Hammer and Nigel Show Tuesday he felt confident that Perdue would retain his seat in the Senate, but expressed concern about Loeffler’s chances.
