Bad news, fellow Hoosiers. After an absolutely grueling session of deep critical thinking, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has determined that the state of Indiana and basically every other state that supports the Second Amendment are wholly to blame for the horrific gun violence in her city.

Lightfoot announced her findings in an interview with CNN’s State of the Union Sunday morning in response to President Donald Trump’s offer to solve Chicago’s soaring murder rate by sending in federal troops to her city.

“We are being inundated with guns from states that have virtually no gun control, no background checks, no ban on assault weapons,” Lightfoot said.

“That is hurting cities like Chicago,” she added. “That is the thing that if the President wanted to help and the other things I identified in my letter he could do today, tomorrow but he is not really interested in helping in that way.”

Lightfoot previously blamed Indiana for Chicago’s murder rate in July of 2019. At the time, the mayor promised to get control of the violence in her city by treating violence as a public health crisis in order to “dig down into the root causes of the violence.”

In a Twitter spat with Senator Ted Cruz just two months later, Lightfoot expanded the scope of her blame for Chicago’s gun violence on Texas:

“60% of illegal firearms recovered in Chicago come from outside IL — mostly from states dominated by coward Republicans like you who refuse to enact commonsense gun legislation,” Lightfoot tweeted. “Keep our name out of your mouth.”
