Listen Live

It may be hard to hear, but let’s face it your hanging basket is feeling neglected.

July is the time of year where your “mother’s day” early summer hanging baskets start to look a little droopy. The vibrant colors of your basket may be looking dull and the overgrown leggy vines could be pulling down the rest of the plant.

Before you call it quits, try giving it just 5 minutes of TLC!

Trim

It may seem scary at first, but your flowers could use a trim. Take a pair of scissors and cut them back. Shape and cut back as far as you like. Don’t be afraid to really go for it! What you’re doing when pruning is stimulating the growth of the flower. In a few weeks, you’ll start to see the flower come back to life and fill up again.

Fertilize

To see your flowers rejuvenate, you’ll need to fertilize. Pat sometimes will double up with Osmocote and some Miracle-Gro. Sprinkle some food in and pour some of that Miracle-Gro mixture and you’ll see the difference in your flowers. For the best results, you’ll need to fertilize once a week. (You should really fertilize any container once a week for best results!)

Tip: Keep some Sevin or Organic Insecticide nearby just in case the local bug crew starts to notice your revitalized flowers.

With a bit of trimming and fertilizing you should see improvements and more importantly color back in your baskets and/or containers in no time!
