The fine mayor of Fishers, Indiana, Scott Fadness, just launched his ‘2,000 Acts of Kindness’ campaign – a taxpayer-funded effort to paper over the financial devastation suffered by local restaurants under his leadership during the pandemic.

How Does The 2,000 Acts of Kindness Bribe Campaign Work?

  1. The city of Fishers, Indiana uses tax revenue collected from local businesses and residents to buy $100,000 in gift cards from locally-owned restaurants.
  2. Those gift cards are then handed out to those same taxpayers for committing financially-incentivized “random” acts of kindness.
  3. “Lucky” gift-card recipients use their money to order food at local restaurants.
  4. Local restaurants – severely devastated by the shutdowns from an overly-intrusive government – use the gift cards to reduce the pre-tax cost of a gift-card recipient’s meal, which further reduces tax revenue collected and paid in the city of Fishers, Indiana.
  5. The reduced tax revenue helps contribute to budget shortfalls, leading to higher taxes in the future and making the cost of living and doing business in the city of Fishers, Indiana less attractive!

“Gee, Wally, that sure sounds like a swell idea!” – Beaver Cleaver, fictional sitcom character

Wait. Wouldn’t It Make More Sense and be Much Smarter to Let Restaurants Resume Business as Usual Rather Than Spending Tax Dollars to Pay Tax Payers to Buy Food from Tax-Paying Restaurants?

Yes, but we’re saving lives. If we can prevent one person from contracting COVID-19 by starving our citizens to death, devastating the local economy, and increasing rates of depression, drug abuse, domestic abuse, and suicide, then it’s totally worth it!

Wait. This Sounds Like the Kind of Scheme a Democrat Would Concoct.

Doesn’t it though?

But I Thought Scott Fadness Was a Republican?

LOL.

Screw It; I’m In. How Do I Get My Card?

Residents in Fishers can be eligible for a gift card by submitting an act of kindness they performed to the campaign’s website.

Wait. Do I Have to be a Fishers Resident to Qualify?

It’s not clear, but that appears to be the case, according to the campaign’s website.

Wait. Do I Have to Commit the ‘Act of Kindness’ in Fishers, Indiana to Qualify?

It’s not clear, but that appears to be the case, according to the campaign’s website.

So What If I Commit My Act of Kindness in Carmel?

Give Mayor Brainard time. He’s not shy about spending money. Their program will likely dwarf Fishers and get you a free ticket to the Carmel Palladium – not for a show, of course, but you can visit the building.

Okay. I’ll Commit My Act of Kindness in Fishers Instead of Carmel. I Can’t Figure Out Those Roundabouts Anyway.

Neither can Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard.

Ooh! Can I Use My Gift-Card at The Nickel Plate Bar and Grill?

Nope. They closed last year to make way for more destruction of the area’s original character and charm.

Anything Else?

You’re also asked to share the financially-incentivized act of kindness by using #actofkindness on social media. This helps counter negative press related to the campaign such as this blog post.
