Close to tears, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recounted her experience of the Jan. 6 Capitol riot Tuesday, saying it “almost felt like a zombie movie or something.”

Ocasio-Cortez said that rioters actually entered her office at one point, and she hid in her bathroom after her legislative director Geraldo Bonilla-Chavez told her to “hide, hide, run and hide.”

Ocasio-Cortez said she heard a man yelling, “Where is she?” And as he continued to yell for her, she assumed she would die.

The Representative and her legislative director soon discovered that the man yelling her name was actually a Capitol Police officer. This brought her little comfort, however, as he “was looking at me with a tremendous amount of anger and hostility,” she said.

Ocasio-Cortez said her legislative director later remarked that she too “didn’t know if he was here to help us or hurt us.”

The officer told them to go to another building, but Ocasio-Cortez said he didn’t offer specific safety instructions or an exact location.

The fact that the man whom Ocasio-Cortez feared was actually a Capitol Police officer seems like an important detail of the story. So why are so many media outlets ignoring it?
