The theatre, the theatre, oh it continues. Remember when AOC shed tears at the border for all the “kids in cages”? Well she is back with more childish antics. Her latest piece of showmanship came about after being escorted by police for blocking traffic in which she pretended to be handcuffed.
A pro-abortion demonstration took place outside the Supreme Court led by several members of far-left lawmakers. During the protest, Capitol Police were sent to corral the crowd as they blocked traffic. One of the protesters happen to be Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who was gently escorted by an officer to get out of the street. As the officer guided AOC to a grassy area between the Supreme Court and Capitol building, she placed her hands behind her back to imitate being handcuffed as she lifted her head with a smile. She briefly lifted her fist in the air after her fellow protestors applauded her.
The media immediately picked up on AOC’s charade and the video of her pretend arrest went viral. Later the New York Representative took to Instagram to claim the right’s over-reaction.
“Republicans’ favorite hobby is to make conspiracy theories out of everything to distract you and keep you from talking about what’s actually important — which is the fact that they are trying to take away your right to bodily autonomy. If I was faking that, why would I intentionally first pump somebody? It’s so silly.”
After being escorted off to the side, AOC and other lawmakers didn’t miss a beat as the gave interviews with the media.
Several lawmakers were booked during the protest including Reps. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Jackie Speier of California, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, Andy Levin of Michigan, Barabara Lee of California, Cori Bush of Missouri, Katherine Clark of Connecticut, Nydia Valezquez of New York, Jan Schakowsky of Illinois, Madeleine Dean of Pennsylvania, and Sarah Jacobs of California. They were released later that afternoon charged with a $50 fine for “crowding, obstructing, or incommoding.”
