Nothing is better than fresh air. It’s what we encourage our kids to get in the summer instead of sitting indoors in front of a screen. The CDC says they absolutely should go to camp this year and enjoy that fresh air… as long as they’re wearing a mask.

CDC Director Rochelle Walensky told CNN Wednesday to avoid COVID-19 outbreaks like last summer, they suggest kids wear masks at camp unless eating, drinking, napping, or swimming.

If you would like your 12-15 year-old to be able to enjoy camp outside, Walensky says they should get vaccinated. Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for adolescents as young as 12 years old is expected to be ready in the next week.

Outside activities that are more isolated like tennis can be done mask-free. However, for those younger campers and non-vaccinated they should keep their masks on when playing team sports like soccer.

“So if you have five 10-year-olds who are on a soccer field, all in front of the same soccer ball, we’re trying to make sure that there are not a lot of heavy breathing around a singular soccer ball with five kids around it at the same time.”

Tony Katz says the latest restrictions are just another way to continue fear-mongering and way to keep those in power.

“There is a desire for Americans to live in fear. There is. There is a desire out there. People want you to be afraid.”
