White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator, Dr. Deborah Birx, says it’s all about ’empowerment’ when it comes to the recent spike in coronavirus cases here in Indiana.
Friday Dr. Birx joined Tony to discuss what Americans need to do in order to stop the spread of the virus.
Spoiler Alert: We already know what to do!
A big point Dr. Birx makes is the significant increase of tools and resources we now have, that we didn’t have in March.
Americans know at this point to wear a mask and wash our hands-the hard part is getting everyone to do it. Birx says if we all wear surgical-type masks lock downs aren’t necessary.
“If we follow these common sense guidelines, we can control the spread of the virus.”
Another element to keeping the spread of the virus to a minimum is consistent testing. As Dr. Birx and her team has discovered after touring the country, they learned that weekly testing within universities has truly made a difference in their numbers. The idea behind more testing, is to help those who are asymptomatic from spreading.
The bottom line-we know what to do to stop the virus, but it’s truly in each of our (freshly washed) hands.
“It’s in our hands, it’s in every Americans hands to change the future of this virus in this country. We know how to do it, we are empowered to do it, we have the knowledge to do it, and we can do it. We want to do it. And we need to do it.”
