New details have emerged in the investigation of an Indianapolis mother who was shot to death after allegedly getting into an argument about Black Lives Matter.

Jessica Doty Whitaker, the mother of a three-year-old boy, was walking along the canal with her fiance, Jose Ramirez, and two friends when someone in their group used a slang version of the N-word.

Ramirez told Fox 59 that the word prompted a confrontation by a group of strangers.

Ramirez alleged that the suspect’s group shouted Black Lives Matter and Whitaker or someone in her group replied that All Lives Matter.

Fox 59 reported that the two sides separated upon realizing they were both armed. Minutes later, however, Ramirez claimed that someone opened fire from a nearby bridge and fled.

Ramirez returned fire but did not hit anyone.

WIBC host Tony Katz commented on the horrific incident Monday morning.

Katz:

“I want to better understand how this came to be. I want to understand if it was just this level of pure insanity, which by the way, this is pure insanity. If you think it’s okay to murder somebody for saying “all lives matter,” well then holy hell, can we not be friends. But I still have questions.

“Of course this is a massive story! But we are not yet engaged in a conversation about all the things that led up to it. Two groups of people start yelling at each other – ‘Black Lives Matter,’ ‘All Lives Matter,’ I want to know how that begins. How does that germinate? I wanna know the answer.

“And by the way, the person who shot and killed Ms. Whitaker, do we know who this is yet? Has anyone been arrested? No, police have not released any details on the suspect or suspects.

“Yeah, this story is way, way bigger than we think. No wonder it’s become national.”
