Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said Friday that “there will be a recount in Georgia” after vote totals showed a razor-thin margin between President Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden in the state.
“The final tally in Georgia at this point has huge implications for the entire country,” Raffensperger said, promising that the ballot counting process “is and will remain open and transparent to monitors.”
Raffensperger emphasized that although evidence of ‘widespread’ fraud has yet to be presented, minor voter irregularities have been detected.
The state of Georgia has uncovered instances of voter irregularities in the past.
In 2019, Democrats filed a lawsuit against the state of Georgia citing abnormalities in the 2016 lieutenant governor’s race in which Republican Geoff Duncan defeated Democrat Sarah Riggs Amico.
In 2020, an investigation was launched in 100 of the state’s 159 counties after the discovery of 1,000 instances of double voting in the state’s June primary and August runoff elections.
President Donald Trump alleged in a press conference Thursday that Democrats were engaging in widespread voter fraud and election theft.
“If you count the legal votes I easily win,” Trump said during remarks at the White House. “This is a case where they’re trying to steal an election. They’re trying to rig an election, and we can’t let that happen.”

“Democrats, as usual, accused the President of racism because he singled out Philadelphia and Detroit in his accusations of voter fraud. ‘Large black population in those cities, Trump’s a racist.’
“The racism canard is all [Democrats] have and it’s boring. And by the way, this is coming from the same people who are calling Black people and Hispanic people who voted for Trump ‘traitors to their race.’ People like Al Sharpton are doing it; Joy Behar and the ‘The View’ are doing it. Why is that acceptable?
“Bigotry often alleges bigotry, and that’s simply not acceptable.”
