Roughly 100 people marched from the Indianapolis City-County building to Monument Circle Thursday afternoon to protest the shooting death of Dreasjon “Sean” Reed.

Another protest that drew a much larger crowd happened about 4 p.m. at the intersection of 62nd and Michigan on the city’s northwest side, the site of the shooting.

Reed, 21, was fatally shot Wednesday evening after leading IMPD officers on a high-speed chase, which the suspect live-streamed to his followers on Facebook.

Here are a few of the things Reed captured himself saying in the now-infamous video, which can be viewed HERE:

  • “But like, man I can’t, I just can’t go back to jail, ya’ll.
  • “Hey sis, I’m sorry, I love you though. You know I had to.”
  • “I’m not going to jail easy, baby.”
  • “Get away? I know I’m not getting away.”
  • “I love you, mama. I’m so sorry I put you through this.”
  •  “Imma start shooting. They ain’t gonna catch me.”

As reported by Abdul-Hakim Shabazz and IndyPolitics.org, Dreasjon Reed had three outstanding warrants for his arrest for failure to appear. He had one in Marion County for felony intimidation and two out of the Tarrant County-Ft. Worth area in Texas, one of which involved a gun charge.

Reed was armed with a weapon Wednesday that law enforcement said he pulled out of his pants and fired at the police.

IMPD also identified Reed as the individual in this video:

Yet according to protesters, this was just another example of police shooting an innocent, unarmed black man, and media outlets have been recklessly eager to engage in the race-baiting.

WIBC host Tony Katz addressed the media’s coverage of the Reed shooting Friday morning.

“Jamie Reed, Sean Reed’s father told IMPD Chief Randal Taylor, ‘Ya’ll been murdering us black people for years.’

Randal Taylor is also black, but it doesn’t matter because it’s not about listening to the police for Jamie Reed and the protestors who turned out.

“The desire for facts doesn’t even seem to be in existence.

“Sean Reed was shot by a black officer. When Jamie Reed was presented with that fact, he replied, ‘Doesn’t change nothing. He’s part of them. Regardless of his skin color, when you put that uniform on, you’re one of them.’

“I think the IndyStar has done a tremendous amount of stories to try and move a narrative and gin up Indy. I’m not saying this family shouldn’t be angry, I’m saying we don’t have enough data to let us know what happened here.

“I do know this: to say that all cops are guilty and racist is a lie and every rational person knows it. So let the investigation take place and let’s find out what happened.

“We’re going to destroy a city over this? It looks like some people want to. And it looks like some news organizations definitely want to help.”
