KATZ: CNN Gets It Wrong About Why The UN Was Laughing At Trump

If you watch CNN, you’ll have seen the headline that the world laughs at President Trump.
It's fake news.
Yes, the President was speaking at the United Nations. Yes, the President did say that his administration has done more in two years than almost any other administration in US history. Yes, there was laughter.
The way CNN, and the rest of the media apparatchik want to play it, is that the world was mocking Trump. “They laughed in his face!” “He made a fool of himself!” “The world laughs at his claims!”
UN members laughed during President Trump's #UNGA speech and these experts think the President likely was seething: "One of the phrases to watch for when you're looking at Donald Trump is 'that's okay.' When he says 'that's OK,' he's burning up inside." https://t.co/DdntSqPPRd pic.twitter.com/p0a3wJOkf0— CNN (@CNN) September 26, 2018
Fake news. All of it.
Even the most ardent Trump idolater knows that President Trump can’t help but pat himself on the back. A press gaggle in front of Marine One, a rally in Evansville, Indiana, the UN General assembly: all the same when it comes to talking about how great America is doing because of my administration, and because we won a historic election. You’re welcome, America.
That’s vintage Trump. That’s what he does. You’ve come to expect it. The UN general assembly are not Trump idolaters. And they laughed, because it was funny. No world leader is laughing at President Trump.
Trump hates Mexico. That was the story line...until the incoming Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said he wants to work with Trump, and outgoing Mexican President Enrique Nieto signed and supports a huge trade deal between the US and Mexico. The only question is does Canada want to be on the outside looking in?
Trump is Putin's puppet. That was the story line...until Marines forcibly set Russian soldiers straight in Syria, conversations of further military cooperation between the US and Poland, selling of anti-tank missiles to Ukraine and even further sanctions on Russian entities. Yes, he mis-stepped in Helsinki in his words. His actions tell another story.
Trump is bringing the world to WWIII by calling North Korean dictator Kim Jung-Un “Rocket Man." That was the story line...until the Singapore Summit, a slight reduction (nowhere near enough, yet) of North Korea's nuclear capability, a potential second US-North Korea summit and renewed conversations between North and South Korea, including multiple summits of their own.
And CNN thinks the UN is laughing at President Trump?
They were. But not in the negative way that CNN and others described it (or desire it.)
They laughed because Trump, on the biggest stage in the world, was classic Trump: he didn’t change one bit! Among all the world leaders, Trump bragged about how his administration was the best. "The best ever. Yuge. Amazing. Better than anyone ever, really. Believe me."
It was like Henny Youngman saying, "Take My Wife, Please." Like Jim Gaffigan talking about Hot Pockets. Like Katt Williams dropping 12 F-bombs in a row. Like Carlos Mencia stealing another comic's bit: You expect it. But when he does it, you still love it! “He’s doing it!” You scream to your friend. “Trump's doing the classic 'I’m the best' bit! I love that bit.” And then you laugh.
Of course they laughed. It was funny. And of course President Trump was surprised; he doesn’t think it’s funny, he believes it to be true: that America is better and stronger than ever.
Take a look around. America believes it. And so does the rest of the world, even if they laugh.
