The Month of May is shifting into gear this weekend with the GMR Grand Prix!

The 14-turn race will challenge drivers of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for practice and qualifying Friday and of course, race day on Saturday.

Doug Boles, President of the IMS, says the GMR Grand Prix is a great way to kick-off the racing season and a great way to introduce the family to the Indy 500.

“The 27 cars that will run the GMR Grand Prix are the drivers you’ll see driving in the Indy 500. It’s running in road course configuration, the cars look a little different- they’ve got bigger wings…they run the opposite direction so it’s an interesting way to see INDYCARS that we don’t normally see here in Indiana.”

He notes tickets are available at the door for the weekend and kids 15 and under are free.

Boles spoke with Tony Katz Friday about the weekend’s events, why GA tickets are brisk for the 500 race, and the reasoning behind less cars than previous years.
