Facebook announced Thursday that it had banned several high-profile people from their platform, including Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, a well known and well documented anti-Semite.
The social media giant also placed a permanent ban on InfoWars and radio host Alex Jones, Paul Nehlen, an anti-Semite who unsuccessfully ran for Congress in 2016 and 2018, and media personalities Laura Loomer, Milo Yiannopoulos and Paul Joseph Watson.
“We’ve always banned individuals or organizations that promote or engage in violence and hate, regardless of ideology,” a Facebook spokesperson said in a statement provided to CNN Business. “The process for evaluating potential violators is extensive and it is what led us to our decision to remove these accounts today.”
WIBC host Tony Katz offered a surprising take on Louis Farrakhan’s removal from the Facebook platform.
“There can be no doubt that rational people should have a disdain for Louis Farrakhan, but this idea of ‘hate speech’ – Facebook determining what speech is and is not acceptable – this is a problem.
There is no such thing as ‘hate speech,’ and anyone who tells you differently is wrong. Hate speech doesn’t exist; it is not real.
Louis Farrakhan is a despicable human being, but Louis Farrakhan should not be stopped from exercising his First Amendment rights.”
