Brainard: "I wasn't in the meeting, but I was told that [no offer was made to Hennessey]."

Mayor of Carmel, Jim Brainard's re-election campaign has been plagued by allegations that Fred Glynn, a Hamilton County councilor who is competing for the Republican nomination for Mayor of Carmel, was offered $140,000 to drop out of the race.

According to an article in Current in Carmel, Glynn's then-campaign manager Dan Hennessey went to a Feb. 3 meeting with Brainard's campaign and the Hamilton County Republican Party chair.

Glynn said Hennessey came back from that meeting and told Glynn that Brainard's campaign was offering Glynn $140,000 to drop out of the race.

Shortly thereafter, Hennessey left the Glynn campaign and went to work for the Brainard campaign.

In an interview with WIBC host Tony Katz Wednesday morning, Mayor Brainard denied that Glynn was offered a bribe at any time to exit the primary race.

Brainard:

"I wasn't in the meeting, but I was told that [no offer was made to Hennessey]. And [Hennessey] is not working for the campaign; he's working for a consulting company that we use for the campaign.

...But yeah, apparently he was uncomfortable with the Glynn campaign and needed a different job.

...I've never seen anything like this. We had polling that showed my opponent had about 5% of the vote. 80% of the people in Carmel think that the city is headed in the right direction, and [the allegation] that I would take my campaign account and give it to this guy? That's crazy."
