Katz: How NOT to Negotiate

Democrats Unwilling to Compromise on Border

President Donald Trump walked out of a meeting with Senator Chuck Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Wednesday morning, and WIBC host Tony Katz argues it very well may have been the turning point in negotiations to secure the border and reopen the federal government.

Katz:

"I don't know where this idea came from that only Nancy Pelosi is allowed to play hardball. Democrats can hold their position, but Republicans have to cave?

...Trump said he wants a wall, Nancy Pelosi said 'no' and Trump said 'okay' and walked out of the meeting. Then Chuck Schumer emerges and tells the press that they asked the President to reopen the government, they told him they're willing to discuss anything - just open the government - but they're not! Pelosi and Schumer said 'no.'

I believe that this might have been the very moment that the optics of the shutdown changed. Pelosi and Schumer said 'no.' They didn't say 'how about $3 billion instead of $5 billion,' they didn't offer a compromise. So in terms of the optics, whose shutdown is it?"
