President Trump criticized a black reporter this week of asking a “racist question” when she accused him of emboldening white nationalists by declaring himself a “nationalist.”

“I don’t know why you would say that,” Trump told Yamiche Alcindor, White House correspondent for PBS NewsHour, during Wednesday’s press conference in the East Room. “That’s such a racist question.”

“There are some people who say that now the Republican Party is seen as supporting white nationalists because of your rhetoric, what do you make of that?” Alcindor asked.

“Why do I have my highest poll numbers ever with African-Americans? Why do I have among the highest poll numbers with African-Americans? That’s such a racist question,” Trump responded.
