A Carmel pastor is under fire for referring to Black Lives Matter and ANTIFA protestors as “maggots” and “parasites” in his church’s weekly newsletter.

Rev. Theodore Rothrock, pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, wrote that leaders of both movements are pushing a left-wing socialist agenda and don’t care about their supporters.

“They are wolves in wolves clothing, masked thieves and bandits, seeking only to devour the life of the poor and profit from the fear of others,” Rothrock wrote. “They are maggots and parasites at best, feeding off the isolation of addiction and broken families, and offering to replace any current frustration and anxiety with more misery and greater resentment.”

The comments fueled outrage and brought swift condemnation from Carmel Against Racial Injustice, which plans a daylong protest against Rothrock to start at 7 a.m. this Sunday at the church.

WIBC host Tony Katz offered perspective on Pastor Rockrock’s comments Wednesday:

Katz:

“You can’t use the terms ‘maggot’ and ‘parasite’ and expect people to listen. The conversation is over at that point, so don’t do it.

“Now, it’s also obvious that [the pastor] is talking about the founders of ANTIFA and Black Lives Matter in talking about these radicals and Marxists – not necessarily your neighbors or you. Now that would require an actual reading of what he wrote.

“But what he wrote contains the words ‘parasites’ and ‘maggots,’ and therefore people are angry because if they associate with these groups, they think you’re calling them ‘parasites’ and ‘maggots!’ What makes you think people are going to listen to you?”
