Rep. Bettie Cook Scott (D-Detroit) has issued an apology after hurling a series of anti-Asian slurs at her opponent, Rep. Stephanie Chang (D-Detroit), during last week’s primary election.

More than a dozen community groups and the Michigan Democratic Party called on Scott to apologize after she was heard referring to Chang and her campaign volunteers as “ching-chongs,” in addition to other off-color remarks made outside polling precincts last Tuesday.

Scott and Chang were competing in the Democratic Party primary for Michigan’s 1st Senate District, which Chang won by a wide margin.

The Chicks on the Right discussed Scott’s comments Friday – as well as the battle with management over whether or not to do the story:

Mock:

“There was a big discussion before we went on the air about whether or not we could even do this story. And we had to call the executive producer and ask whether we could even say the words “ching-chong” because you never know what’s going to set people off.”

Daisy:

“Well, you never know what’s okay to say on the air and what’s not because people get triggered. So we had to check to see whether or not it was alright to even do the story because someone will call the radio station and call for us to be fired – because they WANT us to be fired.”

Mock:

“So am I now racist for even trying to pronounce the names of certain cities in China? Maybe we need to do away with the China segment entirely, but darn it; it’s too much fun!”
