Christian University Cancels Ben Shapiro Speech for 'Unity'

Katz: "By not inviting him to speak, you're dividing the people!"

Grand Canyon University, the largest Christian university in the country, is under fire for canceling a speech from Jewish conservative commentator Ben Shapiro. University officials told students from the Young America's Foundation (YAF) chapter at GCU of their decision, citing "biblical truths" and a fear that Shapiro would divide the school's "unique and united community."

“By caving to an unseen mob and ignoring the popularity of Shapiro among its student body, Grand Canyon University just played itself and deserves whatever negative response this brings,” YAF spokesman Spencer Brown said in a statement. “GCU has abandoned the sentiment of its own proclaimed values, deluded itself into acting like the liberal campuses it claims to differ from, and blindly accepted the Left’s ludicrous argument that Shapiro’s presence somehow damages students, campuses, or debate.”

WIBC host Tony Katz noted that disinviting Shapiro from speaking on the topic of 'unity' only further divides the student body and promotes division:

"It goes without saying that you're being divisive by disinviting him. You're dividing the people. And this is a Christian school, which means the things they believe in such as traditional marriage, or abortion, those are things that Ben believes in. So where is the issue?"
