Chris Stirewalt will be covering the election results for Fox News tonight, but he took time out of his busy schedule to join WIBC host Tony Katz to talk expectations for today and post mid-term election.

On Increase in Early Voting:

“In part, it just shows us that people are becoming accustomed to voting early. And that’s something we see increasing. More states and more people are doing it now than used to, so we don’t want to interpret something that isn’t there. That said, we can tell you that voter turnout is going to be big – especially compared to 2014, which was very low participation.

…This year, they’re coming out of the woodwork and we have very high intensity on both sides. But Democrats are certainly looking to make a gain on this.”

On Voter Motivation:

“Hate moves voters, but fear moves voters most of all. It’s fear that is the most powerful motivator and any demagogue will tell you that the way to get voters to the polls is to terrify them and make them hate their opponent.

…If people are content and feel like they’ve got what they need, then they’re not going to vote.”

On Early Projections:

“What is clear is that there is one basic area of probability that is more likely than others, and that is that Democrats will get about 35 seats in the House, which is enough to give them a relative narrow majority, and Republicans will pick up a seat in the Senate.”
