Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently went out to eat in Washington D.C. While out she was inspired by all the hardworking patrons at the restaurant who were also unpaid interns in the House and Senate.

After hearing this, Ocasio-Cortez declared that she would be providing a “living wage” to all her interns; paying them 15 dollars an hour.

“First of all, fifteen dollars is not a living wage in D.C. Not even close. Secondly, let’s do the math here- Each member of the House gets four interns and a budget of $40,000 a year for them… If she pays her interns 15 an hour, she’ll make it around two-and-a-half months before she’s out of money… Clearly hasn’t thought this through.”
