Former Indianapolis Colt Robert Mathis, who was arrested early Tuesday morning in Carmel, allegedly told police he drank alcohol and took a sleeping pill before getting behind the wheel of a pickup truck, according to a police report obtained by TMZ Sports.
According to the report, officers asked Mathis if he had anything to drink -- "He stated that he had one shot of cognac, but had also taken a sleeping aid around 10pm."
Mathis was stopped just after midnight Tuesday for going the wrong way on a one way in a high-end Carmel subdivision just after midnight. He was taken to the Hamilton County Jail around 3 a.m. and released just after 9 a.m.
A blood test revealed that his blood alcohol content was .052, which is below the legal limit of .08. Carmel Police say "other factors contributed to the decision to arrest and preliminarily charge Mathis with OWI, including the results of his field sobriety test."
