More than a few east side commuters are in for a rude awakening.  Today, the 38th St. bridge over the railroad tracks – from Arlington Ave. to ShadelandAve. – closed for rehabilitation. The four-lane bridge hasn’t had a makeover since 1995, so we’re due. Work should be completed in November of this year.

In the meantime, local traffic will have access to 38th St. up to and after the bridge. For the rest of us, here’s a look at suggested detour:

38th St. Bridge

We’ll use Arlington Ave. and Shadeland Ave. as north – south reroutes, and E. 46th St. to go east and west. Indy’s Department of Public Works (DPW) recently strip patched E. 46th St. between Arlington and Shadeland, so it should be a smooth and safe ride.
