I-465 Westbound Shutdown Starts Friday!

Friday night, westbound I-465 will close on the southwest side for an ongoing bridge rehabilitation project.

We’re back in the #I465Sucks business, except this time it’s the westbound lanes that are shutting down on the southwest side. Starting Friday, September 28th at 9pm, all lanes of westbound I-465 will close after I-65 to I-70 for an ongoing bridge rehabilitation project. They'll reopen Monday, October 8th at 6am, weather permitting.

TRAFFIC

Expect excruciating delays on northbound I-65 from the southside, westbound I-70 from the east side, and westbound I-70 south of downtown. In other words, we’re flipping the delays from the eastbound I-465 closure, as in southbound I-465 on the west side, eastbound I-70 from the west side, and southbound I-65 from the northwest side.

The delays were bad. Really, really bad.

However, this is the westbound shutdown, putting the airport very much in play.

DO NOT MISS YOUR PLANE.

That’s right. If you’re catching a flight during the ten day closure, plan ahead and leave early. Those interstates could be jammin’, even if it’s not rush hour.

Check it out:

Westbound

Expect streets and roads on the south side to really take a hit.

  • Bluff Rd. was stopped almost every day during the eastbound closure.
  • There's also overnight work being done on U.S. 31 just south of I-465, with alternating lane closures (until November).
  • S.R. 37 was more of a mess than ususal - as if that's possible.
  • In fact, the entire southwest side turned into a zoo during rush hour, especially in the evening.

RAMPS

Just like the eastbound closure earlier this month, several on and off ramps will shutdown along westbound I-465. Here they are:

  • Kentucky Ave/S.R. 67
  • Mann Rd.
  • Harding St/S.R. 37
  • East St/U.S. 31

I'm one of many that's cooled on the electric scooter craze that's invaded the Indianapolis metro area. There are too many riders using the scooters the wrong way, and too much ambiguity on how to properly use the scooter. Therefore, coming soon, your Scooter Tutor.

It'll be grand.

Please be safe today.
