Illinois-Maryland Intersection To Open Monday! Sort of...

The busy downtown intersection has caused a nightmare for downtown commuters since closing Thursday

The intersection at Maryland St. and Ohio St. will reopen with lane restrictions Monday, according to Citizens Energy - the utility in charge or repairs. The intersection will remain completely closed through the weekend due to a structure collapse underneath a manhole cover.

The closure absolutely WRECKED the Friday morning commute. As of 8:30am, northbound one-ways - Delaware St., Missouri St., and Illinois St. - were jammed packed on the south side of downtown - and Meridian St. and Madison Ave. also were stopped for a lengthy amount of time. Frustrated drivers had trouble accessing downtown parking garages, especailly the World of Wonders garage on Illinois St. before the Maryland St. closure.

Here's a map of the closure, including how Illinois and Maryland drivers are being diverted:

HOW DO I GET AROUND

From Maryland, take Capitol Ave. - a southbound one-way - to South St. Head eastbound on South St to northbound Meridian St. or Delaware St. Turn left on Washington St to return to Illinois.

OR from Maryland, go north on West St. up to Ohio St., then east on Ohio to Illinois.

Here's a look:
