Get ready for an “unreasonably cold and snowy” winter. The Farmers’ Almanac released their 2022-2023 winter forecast and it has predicted a bone-chilling winter. They say you should prepare to shake, shiver and shovel!
The annual American publication has been producing weather prognosis since 1818. The National Weather Service will tell you it focuses on more near term forecasts — less than seven days out. Meteorologist Sara Schultz said stated,
“That kind of prediction is super hard. Weather is very fluid and there are so many factors that can change. You’re dealing with La Niña, El Niño, elements and things like that.”

However, the almanac isn’t shy about prophesizing. It warns, “The first bite of winter should come earlier than last year’s. December 2022 looks stormy and cold nationwide with an active storm pattern developing and hanging around for most of the season over the eastern half of the country.”
“In the Great Lakes region, residents should expect an unreasonably cold and snowy winter”, according to the prediction. The almanac went on to say, “Winter storm warnings may start the first week of January, with potential for heavy snow that may reach as far south as Texas and Oklahoma.”
The Farmers’ Almanac noted that January might bring the “coldest outbreaks of arctic air” in several years. The almanac has a track record of being correct 80% of the time.
The 2023 Farmers’ Almanac offers 16 months of weather prediction starting with September 2022 going through December 2023.
