WASHINGTON, D.C.— If you were shopping anywhere in Central Indiana for groceries Sunday afternoon, you probably saw a lot of bare shelves. President Donald Trump in a speech Sunday evening, tried to assure Americans that groceries would continue to be available.

Trump said that he had spoken with the heads of Kroger and Dollar General, Sunday, two chains that supply mini Hoosiers with groceries.

Though the stores have announced that they will have shorter hours, Trump said that the assurance was from the CEOs, that the supply chain was strong and that store crews would be working hard to restock the shelves.

Vice Pres. Mike Pence echoed trumps comments, adding that he believes the supply chain is the world’s most efficient.

Trump also praised the Fed for pushing interest rates to near zero.

“It makes me very happy,” Trump said in the White House briefing room. “And I want to congratulate the Federal Reserve.”

The last time the Fed cut rates so low was during the global financial crisis just more than a decade ago.

“That’s really great for our country,” Trump proclaimed. “It’s something that we’re very happy, I have to say this, I’m very happy. And they did it in one step, they didn’t do it in four steps over a long period of time. They did it in one step and I think that people in the market should be very thrilled.”

Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb did not say bars and restaurants would be closed in the state, though they were closed by executive order in both Illinois and Ohio.
