Former Libertarian Vice Presidential Nominee Spike Cohen senses momentum for his party in Indiana. Not necessarily that they will be victorious at the ballot box this November, but their vote total and influence is growing.

Cohen joined The Kendall and Casey Show to assert increase in voter interest is dissatisfaction with the Republican Party. According to Cohen, the Republicans repeated increases of taxes, as well as the size and cost of government, has alienated many voters. Said Cohen:

We can actually harness the fact that people are sick of the entire status quo and give them a new binary choice. Not Republican versus Democrat or Democrat versus Republican. Instead, the current ruling class that we have and the misery their bad policies have created, or a bold new Libertarian alternative away from that.

Donald Rainwater was the first to capitalize in his 2020 bid for governor. Rainwater scored nearly 350,000 votes, or more than four times with the Libertarian Party received in 2016. Fast forward to 2022 and Libertarians are once again hoping to have an impact at the top of the ticket. This year it is James Sceniak running for U.S. Senate against incumbent Todd Young and Jeff Maurer running for Secretary of State, which features no incumbent.

Similar to 2020, when Governor Eric Holcomb‘s votes to lockdown the state and institute a mask mandate pushed voters towards Rainwater, Cohen believes flawed Republicans will be a huge benefit for Libertarians. Cohen took specific aim at Young, whose votes have added roughly $11 trillion to the national debt during his first term in office.

Todd Young himself has signed off on 11 trillion dollars in debt spending in his time in office, and my understanding is he says he would do it all over again if he had to…Unfortunately a lot of successful politicians, they’re successful because they pander, and they rely on people’s short attention span, or on the fact that they’re too busy dealing with the after effects of their bad policies, that they don’t have the time to research and see where they came from.
