WASHINGTON — The Department of Health and Human Services is preparing to offer booster shots for all Americans beginning the week of September 20 for those who have received Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.

Eligibility starts eight months after an individual’s second shot and is for those 18 and over.

In a new joint statement, top HHS officials said they’re starting to see evidence of reduced protection among vaccinated individuals as the Delta variant spreads.

The single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine is being reviewed and no booster shot has yet been authorized.
