INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Front line healthcare workers need more than just masks to stay safe in area hospitals.
Other personal protective gear is also in high demand and some is more challenging to create.
More than 80 stitchers from Kokomo to Evansville, Indy and all across the state are working together to reach their goal.
They are working to make 2,500 isolation gowns for doctors and nurses at Eskenazi Health.
While practicing social distancing to stay healthy themselves, Stitchworks Indianapolis leaders are walking less experienced seamstresses through the process, since it is quite a bit more challenging than the masks they and many other groups are making.
Denisha Dlang Ferguson is the executive director of the Indiana Fashion Foundation and space manager at Stitchworks Indy. She says she hopes this trying time convinces more people to learn skills like sewing.
