INDIANAPOLIS — Some Hoosiers are upset that the coronavirus pandemic has shut down the economy.

That’s why a peaceful protest is scheduled for Saturday afternoon in front of the Governor’s Mansion.

“We’re very upset with the shutdown and how it’s crippled the economy,” Robert Hall said. “It’s trashed our freedom.”

Hall, from the Indiana Conservative Alliance and Grassroots Conservatives, is leading the protest Saturday at 3 p.m.

“It’s destroying people’s lives,” he said. “It’s going to cause more harm than what the coronavirus could’ve done.”

Hall believes Governor Holcomb’s decisions have been made by following “skewed models” and misinformation. He adds that the Governor’s decisions are unconstitutional.

“If a quarantine is restricting sick people, that’s one thing. But it’s tyranny when a shutdown is quarantining healthy people.”

Hall calls the coronavirus “overrated” and believes the death numbers have been inflated. He also states that the number of coronavirus deaths are less than the number of people who die from the seasonal flu.

On Friday, the Indiana State Department of Health announced 517 Hoosiers have died from the coronavirus. That’s in just over a month. Last week, State Health Commissioner Dr. Kristina Box said, on average, 150-160 Hoosiers die from the flu each year.

Hall says the point of the protest is to get the message across to Governor Holcomb that he, and others, want the economy to re-open.

“It can be gradual,” he said. “But we need to open up our economy, have social distancing, and eventually, through herd immunity, this virus will go away.”

Hall expects at least 100 people to show up for the protest in front of the Governor’s Mansion, and he promises everyone will stay six feet apart.
