Break time is over.

After a brief hiatus for the Indianapolis 500, patching and paving resumes this weekend on northbound I-65. South side and downtown drivers are well aware of the traffic complications these closures bring, but this weekend adds a section of I-70 that could cause big problems for those catching a flight Saturday or Sunday.

All work on I-65 from Southport Rd. to the north split, and I-70 from Belmont Ave. to the south split is expected to be completed by August. Here’s the complete map of the maintenance area:

Lets check the sections of closure for this weekend, one at a time:

ALL LANES CLOSED

Northbound I-65 from I-465 to the south split

Friday at 9am until Monday at 6am

I-465 - South Split

ALL LANES CLOSED

ALL LANES CLOSED

Westbound I-70 from the south split to Belmont Ave.

Friday at 9pm until Monday at 6am

Westbound I-70

This one is tricky, especially for those heading to Indianapolis International Airport over the weekend. Since the closure extends to Belmont Ave, drivers will not be able to rejoin westbound I-70 at until the Holt Rd. entry ramp. This is problematic for drivers catching a flight from the east side or downtown.

In June, work is supposed to shift to the southbound lanes instead of the northbound lanes. Check back with the traffic blogs for updates and information. We’ll let you know, for sure.
