INDIANAPOLIS — No one was hurt, but six families are now without a home after an apartment fire on Indy’s north side Tuesday night.

The Indianapolis Fire Department said multiple drivers on I-465 called 911, stating they could see flames and smoke coming from the Pickwick Farms apartment complex just after 7 p.m. When firefighters arrived, large flames were coming from the first and second floors, and through the roof.

Crews from the Indianapolis, Pike Township and Carmel Fire Departments were able to put the fire out just after 9 p.m.

Investigators learned that the fire started from an unattended stovetop. A man inside the apartment on the first floor said his mother had left it on, and when he smelled smoke and saw fire on the stove, he got out.
