HAMMOND, Ind. — The body of a little girl was pulled from a retention pond near I-80 in Hammond on Thursday afternoon.

Indiana State Police say a construction worker called 911 after he found a dead body in the pond on the southwest loop of I-80/I-94 interchange at Kennedy Avenue. The Hammond Fire Department pulled the body of one-year-old Jaclyn Dobbs of Deerfield, Illinois from the water.

Investigators in Wheeling, Illinois believe she is the daughter of 21-year-old Ja’nya Murphy, who was found strangled to death Tuesday night in her apartment.

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday morning to determine the cause of death.
