WASHINGTON — A group of 40 Republican senators in Washington plan to use the Congressional Review Act to challenge a federal COVID vaccine mandate plan being pushed by President Biden.
The Congressional Review Act allows Congress to overrule any final ruling made by a federal agency. In this case, the effort would challenge any vaccine mandate that is rolled out by health experts in the Biden Administration.
Biden wants to require businesses with at least 100 workers or more to mandate that their workers be vaccinated for COVID. Braun highlighted his recent visits back to Indiana in an address on the Senate floor announcing their plans to challenge the mandate.
Sen. Mike Braun of Indiana is leading the effort.
“I’ve never had so many friends and business owners who made it a point to find me and tell me that ‘this can’t be happening’,” Braun said. “Federal employees, federal contractors, they contacted me too. They think they’ll lose ten to twenty-five percent of their workforce.”
Braun said the mandate being pushed by the White House would be the “biggest wallop that these entities have had.”
However, the effort is expected to fall short. Even if enough votes are mustered by Republicans to pass the resolution, the president will likely veto the measure and it’s unlikely the GOP would be able to find the two-thirds of both chambers to override a veto.
