SOUTHPORT, Ind.–Jason Brown has been found guilty of murdering Southport Police Lt. Aaron Allan in 2017.
A judge found Brown guilty, rather than a jury. In a deal reached with Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears, the death penalty was not sought in exchange for Brown waving a jury trial. The verdict was announced Tuesday at 11 a.m.
Life without parole was also dropped as a possible sentence because of problems with the evidence the prosecution presented.
He could get up to 65 years in prison. Sentencing will be in April.
Brown shot and killed Allan in July 2017, when Allen responded to a wreck. Brown was one of the occupants of the vehicle that wrecked and shot Allen, who died at the hospital.
