WASHINGTON--While the federal government has been airlifting some of the Haitians camped at the U.S.-Mexico border back to their native country, Congressman Andre Carson (D-Ind.), said on Twitter that he opposes those deportations.

“Like so many other Hoosiers & Americans, I’m extremely concerned by the mistreatment of Haitian asylum seekers at our border. We must treat all migrants with dignity. We should not be deporting these refugees back to Haiti where they have fled from so many dangers on the ground,” he said.

Rep. Jim Banks, a Republican, said he believes Haitians have been misled by the Biden administration into thinking they may have a future as U.S. citizens by coming across the border illegally.

Banks and other Republicans have called on Biden to enforce existing immigration laws and reinstate Trump-era policies at the border.
