STATEWIDE–The Indiana Supreme Court has unanimously ordered adjustments to future bar exams.

They are making the adjustments due to concerns about the coronavirus and after reviewing a report called the “Study Commission on the Future of the Indiana Bar Examination.”

The February bar exam will be administered remotely on February 23 and 24, 2021 using software that the Supreme Court said was successfully used by the National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE) in October 2020. The online exam will consist of the Indiana Essay Examination, the Multistate Performance Test, and the Multistate Bar Examination.

Starting with the July 2021 exam, the state will adopt the Uniform Bar Examination (UBE). That test will be conducted over two days and was developed by the NCBE. It will consist of three multistate parts, which would provide a score transferable to other jurisdictions. There will also be a required Indiana component as well.

“We are thankful for the work of the members of the Study Commission and are looking forward to begin offering the UBE to applicants. These changes will ensure qualified test-takers can join the legal profession on-time to provide needed legal services,” said Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Loretta Rush.
