TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — The Delta variant of COVID-19 is showing up in children in Vigo County.

However, that’s not the only thing concerning the county’s health commissioner.

Dr. Darren Brucken says the respiratory illness RSV, which usually shows up in the winter time, is showing up in infants and young children right now.

“My own opinion is nobody is masking, so respiratory viruses are spreading like crazy right now,” Dr. Brucken told the Tribune-Star.

This week, one daycare center in Vigo County had six children test positive for RSV, and one child also tested positive for COVID.

The health department is also reporting that some high school student-athletes who are practicing for fall sports are also testing positive for COVID-19.

The Trib-Star says only 14 percent of children aged 14-18 in Vigo County are vaccinated against COVID.
