INDIANAPOLIS — The 2020 Indiana State Fair might have been canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic, but a smaller carnival will be replacing it at the Indiana State Fairgrounds this summer.
North American Midway Entertainment, a company based in Farmland, Indiana, announced “Fairgrounds Fun Park” will be held at the fairgrounds from July 31 to September 7.
Spokesperson Alicia Thomas says the company is the same that normally puts on the Midway at the state fair.
“They have been partnered since 2000, so this was a natural conversation that came since the state fair was canceled this year,” Thomas said.
She said they feel confident the event can go off without any safety issues or setbacks, since the state is expected to reach the fifth and final stage of re-opening July 4.
50 different carnival rides and food vendors will make up the carnival.
Thomas says there will be many safety guidelines in place, including guests strongly being encouraged to wear masks. Workers will be required to wear masks at all times, and will also do extra cleaning and sanitization to the rides and other areas of the carnival. There will also be contactless payment options, no cash, and plexiglass shields to protect food items. Guests will also notice hand sanitizing stations all around the area.
The event will open at noon and stop admitting guests at 9 p.m. It will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, except for Labor Day.
