GARY, Ind. — A bank security guard was shot and killed in Gary on Friday and now a man from Florida is charged with murder.

Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez, Jr says 24-year-old James King, of Miami, Florida,  and another man ambushed the First Midwest Bank Friday afternoon.

They were met outside the bank by Richard Castellana, 55, who was the bank’s security guard.

King shot and killed Castellana and then went inside the bank and demanded cash.

“Lake County Sheriff’s Department officers apprehended King in a wooded area near 43rd Avenue and Garfield Street,” said Martinez, Jr in a news release. “According to the probable cause affidavit filed with the Lake County, Indiana Prosecutor’s office, a backpack containing a .40 caliber Glock Model 22 handgun and approximately $9000 in United States currency was located near where King was apprehended.”

Local murder charges have been filed against King but the FBI is now leading the case, which means possible federal charges against him.
