INDIANAPOLIS — Former Marion County prosecutor and Indy radio host Carl Brizzi has died.
Brizzi passed away Wednesday after suffering a stroke several days before, says the law firm he was working for. He was 53. He leaves behind his wife, Kim, and their six children.
Brizzi started working for Lewis and Watkins LLP in 2018.
“With great sadness, our law firm confirms the passing of our friend and colleague Carl Brizzi, 53, who suffered a stroke this evening. Carl previously served as a federal lawyer for a Congressional investigation, was twice elected Marion Co. Prosecutor, and served his clients in private practice. He was frequently on the local news as a guest legal commentator. Carl had been with LAW since 2018. Our thoughts are with his wife and children,” the firm said on Facebook.
Brizzi was the prosecutor in Marion County from 2003 to 2010. Upon leaving his post in the prosecutor’s office, Brizzi went back to practice law in the private sector. He also hosted “Crime Beat with Carl Brizzi” on WIBC.
In 2013, no charges were filed against Brizzi after an investigation into bribery accusations took place. Then U.S. Attorney Joe Hogsett, who would go on to become Mayor of Indianapolis, said though he found evidence of misconduct from Brizzi while he was prosecutor, no charges would be filed.
In 2020, Brizzi made an attempt to run for Congress in Indiana’s 5th Congressional District when then Rep. Susan Brooks decided not to seek another term. The seat eventually went to Rep. Victoria Spartz.
Brizzi was also at one point the Senior Investigative Counsel to the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee and was Indiana State Finance Chairman for the Rudy Giuliani presidential campaign in 2007.
